MS Windows
Everybody use it: Windows. Microsoft’s Windows.
What is it that makes that OS so goddamn popular? Why is it after a hundred years or so, still running practically ALL personal computers in this world which is not owned by Linux nerds? And why is it, after all these godforsaken years still so BUGGY? It’s like Microsoft (MS) haven’t learned anything from after running the show for so long. MS’s monopoly is another mystery though. And another post.
The first version of Windows was introduced back in 1983 and was considered innovative. Between 1985 and now (2005) MS has launched several main versions: 95, 98, ME, 2000, and XP (Windows Experienced) in 2001. Exactly what is experienced anyway, Windows?!
Anyway, during the years MS has by various methods --- sometimes in pure evil fashion --- efficiently crushed ALL competition. From the start, MS has been buying up competing and promising companies and/or their products. Hotmail is probably the best example. The big bad MS wolf has also, by to rumor, destroyed competing non-sell out companies.
Despite that MS wasn’t the first or best it still has managed to rule and established itself as the unquestionable and untouchable leader. It’s sad, depressing, and almost offensive that there’s no alternative to Windows around. Sure, we have the “rebellions”; the Linux people that hate MS above everything else. And OS’s like Macintosh and UNIX. But UNIX is mainly all code and nothing for the average home user. And let’s face it: Apple people are living in their own little, silver iWorld.
If there were programs and games around then Linux could be a serious competitor. But at the moment mainly computer nerds and anti-MS people use it. Since Linux is free it should be in everybody’s interest to use it. But for the moment, software producers are neglecting it in favor for Windows. Why? It’s a good, BIG, tested market with a lot’s of different buyers; ordinary home users, companies, governments, etc.
Guess we’re stuck to Windows. The OS that grows so large with time it’s frightening. As programs and games are installed, the system not only slows down, it consumes half the space on the hard drive! Okay, slightly exacerbating. Anyway, after a couple of security patches, Windows is slower then ever. It’s really amazing by the way that installed software --- which is not in use --- can slow down things so much.
And all the bugs! It’s pretty fair to imagine that after 20+ years in the business, MS should have developed an efficient, smooth OS. But no, apparently not. Windows is still a mess, slow, and buggy. With every patch, another hole needs to be filled. Maybe that’s why MS decided to bundle patches instead (SP1 and SP2). MS was simply too tired of constantly correcting own errors!
Even though it’s slow and full of bugs, Windows continues to be everywhere and used by everybody; from governments to businesses; to home users. As long it remains MS will continue to be the unquestionable and untouchable leader in the computer business. As long this situation remains software producers will continue to make programs and games for Windows and neglecting competitors.
Who knows what Bill Gates thought way back then in 1983 when the original Windows was released. Apparently he had some very special plans considering the MS and Windows dominance. So to the ultimate question: is MS’s goal to take over the world? And of the topic: is Bill Gets the Devil? Can this be? Really?!
